SK Returns as Official Ammunition Sponsor for CMP’s National Rimfire Sporter Match

We are please to announce that SK Ammunition is renewing support as the Official Ammunition Sponsor of the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) National Rimfire Sporter Match.

“The Civilian Marksmanship Program is thrilled SK Ammunition is on board to, again, sponsor our 2022 National Rimfire Sporter Rifle Match at Camp Perry. The National Rimfire Sporter Match will take place on Sunday, July 24th,on the Viale Range at the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center, located within the Camp Perry Training site near Port Clinton, OH.

This unique match offers shooters a recreation-oriented competition where they use sporter rifles commonly owned by nearly all gun enthusiasts. Competitors only need their rifle and ammo to participate. Course of fire is prone position for one series of (10) slow-fire rounds and two series of (5) rapid-fire rounds at 50-yard targets. Followed by standing position for (10) slow-fire rounds and two series of (5) rapid-fire rounds at 25-yard targets.

Mietenkorte Wins Conard Bernhardt Silhouette Championship

Conratulations to team SK member Erich Mietenkorte who scored an overall aggregate of 143 x 160 to secure first place at the 30th Annual Conard Bernhardt Silhouette Championship. Erich scored first place in the Smallbore Hunter Rifle and second place in Smallbore Standard.

The results were as follows:
1st Place Smallbore Hunter – 72 x 80
2nd Place Smallbore Standard – 71 x 80

The Conard Bernhardt Silhouette Championship was hosted by the Pe Ell Sportsman’s Club on April 23-24th in Pe Ell, Washington. The two-day match had competitors from all over the US, Canada, and Mexico shooting four, 40-round smallbore (22LR) relays. For each relay, shooters engaged ten chickens at 40 meters, ten pigs at 60 meters, ten turkeys at 77 meters and ten rams at 100 meters.

Congratulations to Team SK’s Erich Mietenkorte for finishing 2nd at the 2022 Spindletop Silhouette Championship.

Erik won the silver medal (2nd) in Standard Rifle and bronze medal (3rd) in Hunter Rifle categories for the 2nd place podium finish. His final score of 142/160 was just two points from the winning result 144/160.

The Spindletop Championships were held at the Golden Triangle Gun Club in Beaumont, Texas, April 2-3. Shooters engage ten chickens at 40 meters, ten pigs at 60 meters, ten turkeys at 77 meters and ten rams at 100 meters. All rounds are fired offhand/standing in silhouette competition.

SK’s Jake Stine Wins Arizona High-Power Silhouette Championship

Team SK’s Jake Stine has won Arizona High-Power Silhouette Championship. He scored an overall aggregate of 107 X 160 to secure the Arizona High-Power Silhouette Junior State Championship. Jake not only won both Standard Rifle and Hunter Rifle junior categories, he finished 1st Place Standard Rifle and 2nd Place Hunter Rifle overall.

The Championship was hosted by the Arizona State Rifle & Pistol Association and the Hassayampa Rod & Gun Club in Phoenix, AZ, March 26-27. For High-Power competition, shooters engage ten chickens at 200 meters, ten pigs at 300 meters, ten turkeys at 385 meters and ten rams at 500 meters with centerfire rifle cartridges.

“A big thanks to SK, as well as Lapua, Berger and Vihtavuori powders. I am proud to be shooting the best components and ammunition in the world,” commented Jake.

Jake shoots the 6mm BR cartridge with Lapua cases for High-Power Silhouette competition. He loads Vihtavuori N135 behind Berger 6mm 95 Gr VLD Target bullets for chickens, pigs and turkeys, and Vihtavuori N140 with Berger 6mm 108 BT Target bullets for the 500-meter rams.

Joerg Melcher at work

Today marks the end of a prestigeous era, when SK Sales Manager, Herr Joerg Melcher, retires after 26 years with the company. Working from our factory site in Schoenebeck in Germany, Joerg has been a familiar and friendly face also at events, trade shows and competitions around the world. He is a valued and respected colleague who knows everything there is about rimfire. Happy retirement Joerg, you will certainly be missed by all your colleagues, associates and customers in the industry. Auf Wiedersehen!

SK’s Erich Mietenkorte Wins Missouri High-power Silhouette Regional

Team SK member, Erich Mietenkorte, fresh from his win at the “Iron Man” Regional, Silhouette has won the Missouri High-power Silhouette Regional. Mietenkorte scored first place in both High-Power Standard and Hunter rifle with a score of 101 X 120 and 93X120, respectively.

The Missouri High-Power Rifle Silhouette Regional was hosted by the Bench Rest Rifle Club of St. Louis on June 12-13th in Wentzille, MO. The two-day match consisted of 4 40-shot relays on Saturday and 2 40-shot relays on Sunday. With centerfire the chicken targets are at 200 meters, pigs at 300 meters, turkeys at 385 meters and rams at 500 meters.

Mietenkorte stated, “Even though the temperature was in the upper 90s and the humidity was very high my rifle loads didn’t seem to be affected. I had complete confidence in all the components from Lapua, Berger, and Vihtavuori. I was able to shoot consistently throughout all six matches and finished the aggregate in 1st place for both Standard and Hunter rifles.” Mietenkorte shot along side his friend, Team Lapua shooter, Mark Pharr who took 2nd overall at the Missouri High-Power Regional.

Team SK member, Erich Mietenkorte, scored an overall aggregate of 272 x 320 to secure first place at the “Iron Man” Regional Silhouette Championship. Mietenkorte scored first place in both High-Power Standard and Hunter rifle, first place in Smallbore Standard rifle and second place in Smallbore Hunter rifle.

Mietenkorte’s results were as follows:

1st Place High-Power Standard – 67 X 80
1st Place High-Power Hunter – 67 X 80
1st Place Smallbore Standard – 73 X 80
2nd Place Smallbore Hunter – 65 X 80

The “Iron Man” Regional Silhouette Championship was hosted by the Hellgate Civilian Shooters Association on June 4-6th at the Deep Creek Range in Missoula, Montana. The two-day match kicks off with Smallbore (.22LR) on Saturday where competitor’s shoot two Smallbore Standard rifle 40-shot relays, followed by two Smallbore Hunter rifle 40-shot relays. For each relay, shooters engage ten chickens at 40 meters, ten pigs at 60 meters, ten turkeys at 77 meters and ten rams at 100 meters. Sunday’s match has the competitors shooting centerfire with two High-Power Standard rifle 40-shot relays and two High-Powder Hunter rifle 40-shot relays. With centerfire the chicken targets are at 200 meters, pigs at 300 meters, turkeys at 385 meters and rams at 500 meters.

Mietenkorte stated, “When the wind is blowing you around while shooting-offhand, it’s incredibly important to know that your bullet is going to go exactly where you want. SK Rifle Match was the key component to a successful weekend and gives me the confidence to perform at the highest level. Especially in the shoot-off I experienced before winning the Smallbore Standard rifle aggregate.”

We are pleased to announce our renewed support as Official Ammunition Sponsor of the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) National Rimfire Sporter Match.

The National Rimfire Sporter Match will take place July 25 at the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center, located within the Camp Perry Training site near Port Clinton, Ohio. The match offers shooters a recreation-oriented competition where they use sporter rifles commonly owned by nearly all gun enthusiasts. This is a unique match where the only competitor requirements are a rifle and ammo. New shooters are exposed to competitive shooting with a unique course of fire, while experience shooters should find the match challenging as well. All shooters get a series of practice shots at 50 yards and progress to shooting for record with 10 slow-fire shots in the prone position and two series of 5 rapid-fire shots. The final stage of the match consists of targets being placed at the 25-yard line with shooters shooting 10 slow-fire shots and 2 series of 5 rapid-fire shots in the standing position.
