Congratulations to Team SK member, Jake Stine on winning the 2023 Texas State Smallbore Championship with a grand aggregate score of 106 x 120. Stine was recently crowned the North American Smallbore Rifle Silhouette Champion by winning the 2023 Lapua Monarch Cup Championship, a three-nation competition featuring matches in Canada, USA, and Mexico.
In rifle silhouette the winner of the grand aggregate is required to demonstrate consistency and discipline to master the two different rifle types: Hunter and Standard Rifle. These two sub-sections of silhouette, though similar, do test different skillsets. It is the rare marksman who can place near the top with both rifles.
The 2023 Texas Smallbore Silhouette State Championships were held on November 11-12th at the Bayou Rifles Gun Club in Houston, TX. The two-day match had shooters taking aim at steel targets consisting of 10 chickens at 40 meters, 10 pigs at 60 meters, 10 turkeys at 77 meters, and 10 rams at 100 meters. “Having Jake as a member of Team SK and training with SK’s Rifle Match has truly allowed us to showcase how SK’s passion can lead to an individual’s success, commented Geoff Esterline, SK’s Marketing Director. “We’d like to congratulate Jake on a very successful 2023 competition shooting season!”
Congratulations to Team SK’s Jake Stine winning the 2023 Lapua Monarch Cup and being crowned the North American Silhouette Champion! Jake competed in all three legs of the Monarch Cup; the Canadian Nationals, U.S. Nationals, and finishing with the Mexico Nationals. The three-match aggregate determined the Lapua Monarch Cup North American champion.
The Lapua Monarch Cup is comprised of three premier Smallbore Silhouette shooting matches hosted in Canada, United States, and Mexico. Competitors earn points from each match within their respective classification (Master, AAA, AA, & A), providing all shooters an opportunity for over $100,000 in cash and prizes. Lapua’s Monarch Cup is recognized as the must-attend event of the silhouette shooting world.
Jake ’s Monarch Cup victory began by winning the Canadian Nationals with a score of 110 of a possible 120, then third place in U.S. Nationals, and completed the high aggregate by finishing 6th Place in the Mexico Nationals.
Top three competitor scores were as follows:
“Without using the high quality ammunition that SK produces, this accomplishment would have never been possible,” Jake commented. “SK’s passion has truly led to my success.”
Smallbore Silhouette shooting is a fun and challenging shooting discipline that has competitors taking aim at a variety of steel chickens, pigs, turkeys, and rams. Shooters, standing and unsupported, take aim at four banks of silhouettes at increasing distances, shooting 40 targets in all. For every silhouette knocked down, the competitor earns one point. Smallbore Silhouette competitors are shooting at distances of 40, 60, 77, and 100 meters, while High Power Silhouette distances are 200, 300, 385, and 500 meters.
SK sponsored the 2023 Idaho State Steel Challenge Championship and these junior competitors won! We love seeing the next generation out at the range!
In a showcase of precision marksmanship, Team SK member Erich Mietenkorte won the Washington Smallbore Silhouette State Championships held at the Pe Ell Sportsman’s Club on August 26th and 27th.
The two-day state championships had competitors shooting two, 60-shot relays in both Standard Rifle and Hunting Rifle categories.
On Saturday, shooters competed in Standard Rifle, which allows .22 caliber rimfire rifles up to 10-lbs 2oz without any trigger pull-weight regulation (other than it being safe). Sunday, Hunting Rifle relays were fired with rifles limited to 8-1/2 lbs and a minimum two-pound trigger pull. All stages are fired from the offhand position with each match consisting of 15 chicken targets at 40 meters, 15 pig targets at 60 meters, 15 turkey targets at 77 meters, and 15 ram targets at 100 meters.
Mietenkorte fired a 56/60 and 54/60 on Saturday, and a 53/60 and 54/60 on Sunday, even with the tricky wind conditions and out of character high temperatures.
The Washington Smallbore Silhouette State Championship’s results were as follows:
Smallbore Standard Rifle
State Champion – Erich Mietenkorte 110×120
2nd Place – Eric Boos 101×120
3rd Place – Paul Davis 98×120
Smallbore Hunter Rifle
State Champion – Erich Mietenkorte 107×120
2nd Place – Eric Boos 105×120
3rd Place – Paul Davis 102×120
“My training ammunition of choice is SK Rifle Match and Long Range Match,” stated Mietenkorte. “SK is the only ammunition I trust to give me the feedback I need in my training sessions and is a huge part of my success.”
